Direction: Jean-Pierre Devillers

Production: Ideale Audience
Broadcasted on the occasion of the opening of a major retrospective dedicated to American painter Edward Hopper at the Grand Palais in Paris, this documentary portrays the most paradoxical of realist painters. In order to grasp the singularity of Hopper's works as well as to explain the fascination his paintings still exert nowadays, each pictorial stage in Hopper's path is interwoven with American social, political and cultural history of his time.
