RADICI DI MEMORIA

photo exhibition by Stefano Zardini

S. Maria dello Spasimo, Palermo

October 26th – November 1st 2006

At the roots of memory

Into the roots of memory

In wind and earth

Silent memories between sky and earth

Caskets of memory

Coffers of memory

Memories grazed by the wind

Caretakers of memories

Roots of memory

Green lands, burned lands, at the foot of hills or at the deserts’ borderline,

close to the sea or jealously enclosed by stone-walls.

Generous hosts to the long roots of trees, millenary heritage

of all cultures overlooking the Mediterranean sea.

Carob trees, oak trees, olive trees, ever since double threaded to the life of man,

essential elements to everyday life, for days, years, c

enturies and millenia

Common elements for equal lives, although on far away shores.

Trees, roots, trunks, leaves, fruits.

Equal lives, on far away shores. Long lives, longer lives.

Trees that, through memory, see, breathe, record and remember.

Solid, upright, tormented, contorted, punctually deliver their gift.

Trunks with no background immersed into a white unifying territory,

only to reveal the shell of their stubborn memory.

Almost a coffer to defend and protect from human beings

who don’t have the right to open it

in their short and restless life.
